Capitol Reef (Burro Wash Slot Canyon, Cathedral Valley, & Cassidy Arch Rappel) June 14-16, 2018

This trip was a blast! Me and my brother and sister in law took off Thursday night from Provo and got into Torrey about 9pm. We found this great camping spot just East of town on some open land (link here...    https://www.google.com/maps/@38.2981774,-111.3894519,118m/data=!3m1!1e3 ). Got some great shots of the stars and milky way that night.

Friday morning we met up with some of my brothers work friend who were down int he area. We went off and did the Burro Wash Slot canyon which exceeded my expectations.

Iron deposits on the sides of the slot canyon.

 Sitting atop a choke stone.

Setting up for a nice shot.

The end of the slot.

After making it back to the cars, we did one or two of the other classic Capitol Reef hikes then separated with the work friends. Later that night my roomate had planned to meet up with us so we had some time to kill. We went up to Factory Butte and checked things out then stopped by the side of the Fremont river and swam. We got bored and started bouldering.

Met up with my roomate in Loa, put his stuff in the car and took off for the Cathedral Valley campground. Camped in the campground that night then drove the rest of the Cathedral Valley road over to right near Cainville.

Cathedral Valley overlook.

Gypsum sink hole.

 Bentonite clay hills.

 Temple of the Sun.

Finished up the drive and headed right over to the Cassidy Arch trail head. We planned on doing the rappel through the arch since my roomate had never done it. He was jealous of the pics I showed him earlier from the last time I had done it. The Cassidy Arch rappel is always a classic. All in all it's 9 rappels. The most spectacular rappels are the 1st and 2nd then later on, the rappel through the curvy arch (6th or 7th rappel if I remember right).

Just threw up some quick pictures of the rappel. Sorry for how disorderly they look. Headed home after the rappel and got back into town mid evening. Great weekend adventure. Nothing new really besides Burro Wash but still a spectacular trip.
